Agricola VinB
Chiaramonte Gulfi, Sicily
Agricola VinB was founded in 2022 by friends Biagio Distefano and Vittorio D’Angelo, both from the Provincia di Ragusa in southeastern Sicily. Vittorio completed 3 and a half years with pioneering producer Arianna Occhipinti, while Biagio returned home after several years working as a sommelier in London to join the renowned COS winery. The pair began their own project by leasing one hectare of vines in Vittoria, gradually expanding their holdings as the estate developed.
Today Agricola VinB farms 4.95 hectares across three sites in Vittoria, Chiaramonte Gulfi, and Licodia Eubea. The vineyards are all worked organically, fruit is harvested by hand and indigenous yeasts used for fermentation. Their farming approach centres on restoring soil health through cover cropping, careful tilling, and encouraging biodiversity, allowing vines to establish natural balance and resilience in an increasingly dry climate.
Their vineyards in Vittoria are located in the Bastonaca area, considered one of the zone’s most distinctive sites and the source of COS’s Contrada wines. When Biagio and Vittorio first took over their parcels, the soils were heavily compacted from years of poor management. Through organic farming and regenerative practices, the vineyards have gradually returned to life, now rich with native shrubs, plants, and flowers. One plot sits at around 230 metres above sea level on red sand with a gentle southwest exposure toward the sea, cooled by air flowing through nearby rivers and surrounding mountains. A second, approximately 50-year-old planting of Frappato is pure limestone, with rockier soils mixed with white, limestone sand.
The Chiaramonte Gulfi site comes from land owned by Biagio’s grandfather, where no vines previously existed. Situated at 470 metres on clay and rocky limestone, 0.5 hectares of Frappato were planted in 2023 followed by 0.5 hectares of Zibibbo in 2026. The vineyard has been dry-farmed from inception, encouraging deep root systems — an essential approach in this particularly arid part of Sicily, where rainfall can be extremely limited.
The final vineyard lies in Ragoleti (Licodia Eubea), a small, triangular and highly exposed plateau at approximately 500 metres above sea level, surrounded by almond and olive trees. A plot previously owned by Vittorio’s grandfather. Here, 0.5 hectares each of Grillo (planted in 2025) and Nero d’Avola (planted in 2023). The soils are extremely stony, with mostly limestone and some quartz scattered across shallow clay, naturally limiting vigour and producing concentrated fruit that reflects the character of this elevated site.
